Bifröst, the rainbow bridge, connects Miðgarðr to Ásgarðr. It is built with skill and magic and burns in three colours. At Ragnarök it will break when the sons of Múspell ride over it.
Hvárt hefir þú eigi séð Bifröst? Þá muntu sjá hana þá er þú ferr heim. Sú brú er kölluð Bifröst. Þú munt hafa séð hana. Kannske kallar þú hana regnboga. Hon er gerð með list ok með þrenns konar lit ok er hon svá sterk at engi mun hana brjóta.
Have you not seen Bifröst? You will see it when you travel home. That bridge is called Bifröst. You may have seen it. You might call it the rainbow. It is made with craft and of three kinds of colours, and it is so strong that nothing can break it.
Þó mun hon brotna þá er Múspellsmegir fara yfir hana ok ríða hana. Svá mun Bifröst bresta. En goðin þykjast mega gera brú þá er þeir vita at hon mun eigi endask.
Yet it will break when the sons of Múspell ride over it. So Bifröst will shatter. But the gods thought they could make a bridge even though they knew it would not last forever.
